Harry and Ginny. A Fanfic. Part 2.

It was a sombre week following the final battle, with many tears shed for those who died fighting. But as with every dark cloud there was a silver lining. Everyday Harry saw Ron and Hermione's relationship grow in strength, the awkwardness slowly falling away. Each day Ron became more involved in his relationship the more he began accepting that Harry and Ginny were together which meant that their relationship developed more in that week than it ever had.
By the end of the month they were almost inseparable. It was early in the morning and Harry was sat at the kitchen table in The Burrow, gazing at the freshly brewed pot of coffee in front of him. A squawk from outside the window roused Harry and he looked up to see a handsome tawny owl carrying two letters. He walked over to the window and took the letters from the owl, which ruffled its feathers importantly before departing. The letters were from Hogwarts, two of them. Harry placed them on the table and went outside to enjoy the morning sunshine. He stood facing the sun; his eyes closed soaking up the pleasant warmth. Hearing the creak of the stairs he strode back to the kitchen. Ron sat at the table looking extremely groggy. He poured himself some coffee and gulped it down despite the fact it was still scalding hot. "You all right mate?" Harry asked full of concern. He sat down next to Ron.
"No."
"What's up?"
"Hermione."
"What happened?"
"She ranted at me 'cause I said I wasn't going back to Hogwarts."
"What all night?"
"almost." he said groaning. Adding, "What're those?" He pointed at the letters.
"Hogwarts letters."
"Just what I need." Ron replied sarcastically.
"Tell me about it. Ginny still doesn't know."
"I still don't know what?" Ginny's voice sounded from the stairs.
"Oh shit." Harry cursed, slumping over his coffee and dreading the conversation he knew would follow.
"What're you not telling me Harry?" Ginny asked suspiciously.
"Nothing. He's got nothing to tell you. Look, Hogwarts letters." Ron said gesturing at the centre of the table. Ginny walked over to the table and perched herself on Harry's knee, he wrapped his arms around her as if he was never going to let her go. He nuzzled her neck and whispered "I love you." Ginny turned to face him, "I love you too." she replied kissing him gently and quickly on the lips before picking up the letters. She flicked through them. Then counted them, confused.
"I think there's been a mistake there's only two here." she stated puzzled.
"There's no mistake Ginny." Harry replied. "Ron and I aren't going back."
"But…but you have to. You haven't got your N.E.W.Ts." she exclaimed.
"Ginny." Harry sighed, taking her hands in his and looking deep into her eyes. "I don't need a piece of paper to tell me I can be a good Auror."
"No. I'm not going to sit in school for months without seeing you. I won't do it. I'll drop out."
"Ginny. Don't be like this, you managed without me last year." he pleaded lifting his hand to stroke her cheek.
"Don't. Touch. Me."  she spat out acidly, standing up and storming back upstairs, knocking into a flustered Hermione on her way.
"What has happened Harry?" Hermione asked.
"She found out I wasn't going back to Hogwarts. She flipped." Harry answered quickly, eager to go upstairs and make up with Ginny.
"But Harry you have to go-"
"Later Hermione." Right now I have to go say sorry to Ginny and do whatever it takes to get her to forgive me." he interrupted brushing past her. He bounded up the stairs and knocked on Ginny's door. After several minutes of silence he opened the door. There he found her sobbing quietly, curled up into a tight foetal ball at the end of her bed.
Her red hair was splayed across her face, sticking to her cheeks, where her tears ran in a steady flow. She was silent apart from the occasional faint whimper. Her eyes were shut tightly. With her knees pulled up to her chin and her arms wrapped rigidly around them she looked like she was trying to hold herself together. Harry could see her tooth cutting into her bottom lip as she bit down on it trying to silence her sobs. The sight of her so upset at his own doing brought tears to Harry's eyes. He stumbled over to her, muttering "I'm sorry." over and over again. He knelt on the floor next to her bed so that his face was level with hers. He reached out to touch her hand but she recoiled sharply from the contact. "Ginny, I'm sorry. Tell me what I did wrong. please." he pleaded his voice cracking with emotion. Ginny's sobs ceased and she opened her eyes, which were red from her crying, and looked at Harry. "Please Gin tell me what I've done wrong. I didn't mean to upset you. I never wanted to hurt you." He pleaded again on the verge of crying.
Ginny laughed bitterly "you can't think of anything you've said that's hurt me? And I actually thought you had brains!" Harry flinched at her harsh words.
"Please tell me."
"Okay. I'll tell you but you're not going to like it. She agreed with a hint of malice in her voice.
"Just tell me Ginny."
"You said 'you managed fine without me last year.' How would you know how I coped last year? You don't ask about it, you never apologised for leaving."
"I……just assumed-"
"Yeah well maybe you shouldn't have. Shall I tell you the truth Harry?" Ginny shouted.
She stood up her features filled with rage. Harry sat on the bed looking up at her bewildered at the anger and hurt that was pouring from her.
"I'm sorry I never asked."
"You know Harry the truth is I never coped. I was a wreck as soon as you left. I couldn't eat. I couldn't sleep. I didn't know if you were safe, if you were injured. I didn't even know if you were alive.  It almost broke me Harry. Not knowing if you were coming back and if you did whether you'd still want Me." she told him tears running down her cheeks. "The funny thing is you don't even realise how much it hurt. You come back after killing Voldermort and you expect everyone to forget the pain you've caused. To have you back and then be taken away from you so soon afterwards brings back that pain. It feels like my heart's being torn out and I can't go through that again." she finished a fresh wave of tears overwhelming her.
"Ginny I'm so sorry. I should have asked. I'm sorry, forgive me please. I'll do anything for you, just forgive me." Harry begged standing up and grasping Ginny's shoulders, tears glistening on his own cheeks.
"Would you go back to school?"
"Anything but that."
"Then why should I? If I have to be away from you and then this pain will just come back."
"Because it won't. This year will be different. You'll know where I am. You'll know that I'm safe. You'll know that I want you because I will always want you even after I die. I'll write to you every day if you want me to. I'll visit you in Hogsmeade every Hogsmeade trip. I'll come and watch you play every Quidditch match. I'll be here very holiday to see you." he promised "what do you say? Can you forgive me?"
"Yes I think I can." she answered drying her tears. Harry beamed and dried his own tears. He pulled her closer and placed both hands on either side of her face. He pressed his lips onto hers kissing her urgently, deeply and passionately. Gently he pulled away from her, Shall we go downstairs?" he asked gesturing to the doorway.
"I'll join you in a minute I just need to sort myself out." she answered Harry made his way downstairs.

I really love this fanfic. Your descriptions are great.

What I don't understand is why would they go back to school after the battle in their seventh year?Aren't they graduated?
