Harry and Ginny Fanfic.

He was euphoric. The ecstasy of no longer having to fight  kept him afloat, but the darkness of grief snagged at the edge of his mind forcing him back to reality. Each corner he took through the castle he saw destruction that was a result of the final battle. At least, he thought, there wouldn't be any more. It was as he was deep in thought that a voice cried out behind him. He turned on his heel to see from where the sound came. At the end of the corridor he'd just walked down a middle aged woman with flaming red hair knelt weeping over her dead son's body, her balding husband knelt with her, comforting her as best he could. Stood behind them was a young man, the deceist's twin; a teenage couple the boy with flaming hair and freckly skin like the rest of the family, the girl with brown curly hair. The girl was clinging to the boy, his arms wrapped around her consolingly. A teenage girl stood apart from the family a silent, solitary tear rolling down her cheek.
He hesitated a moment before walking back down the corridor. When he reached the girl he put his arms around her, soothing the pain he knew she felt. "Oh Harry." she exclaimed burying her face in his shoulder. "Shh. Its okay." he replied reaching up to wipe the tear from her cheek gently. He could feel her sobs shaking her body. "You need to sit down, there's a ledge over there." he said walking over to the ledge, supporting her whilst she walked. Upon reaching the ledge Ginny remarked "Harry there's only room for one of us."
"There's room enough." he said pulling her onto his lap his arms wrapped around her to comfort her.
"Thank you."
Harry laughed quietly. "Why are you laughing?" Ginny asked.
"Because you thanked me for something so trivial when I'm just glad you're sat here alive and not lying in the castle somewhere ….. d...d…d" he swallowed a lump rising in his throat "dead." he finished forcing the last word out of his mouth.
"What?" she asked not sure how to react.
"Ginny." he said turning her face him looking into her eyes. " I…I couldn't bear it if you died It would kill me. I love you so much. All I want, all I need in my life is you." he added in a tumble of passionate communication.
"You mean it?" she asked searching his eyes for answers.
"'course I do."
"You'll stay this time. You won't ever leave me again?" Harry flinched at the last part of her question.
"Not unless you want me to." he promised bending his head towards her, pressing his lips softly onto hers. He could feel his pulse race when she placed a hand on his neck.
"Ginny! What do you think you're doing?" a furious voice shouted form in front of them. Ginny reluctantly pulled away, turning to look at her brother Ron. Harry groaned in annoyance, letting his head hang and rest on Ginny's shoulder. "Kissing Harry." she retorted "problem?"
"Yes!" he snapped his ears turning red.
"What is it about me kissing Harry that is a problem?" she asked innocently.
"He's taking advantage of you, you're upset."
"Ron I'm not taking advantage of her. I would never do that." Harry said. Adding to convince Ron; "I'm not that kind of person."
"But you broke up with her!"
Harry lifted his head to look at Ron. " Yes I did. But I didn't want to, you know that." annoyance crept into his voice. " But it's not dangerous for us to be together anymore. Voldemort isn't here to manipulate people. He isn't here to use people's emotional ties against them. We should be celebrating! Voldermort's gone, there's no more danger. All I want now is a happy, quiet life with someone I love. OK? And that person, and you can't change that, is Ginny. Understand me, I'm here by her side, through thick and thin, until she no longer wants me. She has my undying love and I'm never ever letting her go again. So I thank you for your concern but I really wouldn't take advantage, ever."
"What did you say this time Ron?" Hermione demanded, joining them. "I heard raised voices."
"It doesn't matter Hermione." Harry replied.
"I can guess." she chuckled. "I will never understand why you can't leave Ginny alone when she's with Harry."
"I'll second that ." Ginny said.
"Me too." added Harry laughing.
"Or any of her other previous boyfriends." said Hermione.
"Is that what you are again?" Ginny asked Harry.
" Most definitely." he answered, kissing her again. He heard Ron and Hermione walk away.
Harry didn't know how long they sat there, kissing, enjoying finally being together again. But the light outside was rapidly fading into a dark starry night. "Harry! Harry." someone called down the hallway. Harry reluctantly pulled away from Ginny. "Over here." he shouted back, drawing his wand.
"I think my lips are chapped." Ginny said quietly, Harry laughed.. A boy with short black hair and a lanky physique strode over to them.
" Hi Neville. What's up?" Harry asked.
"Err… Oh yeah. Mr Weasley said that they're leaving for The Burrow now and would appreciate it if Ginny came with them, but you're welcome to go back with them if you want. Hermione's going back with them as well." he replied.
"Thanks Neville."
"You might want to avoid the main hallways on your way though."
" Why?" Harry asked curiously.
"Harry. You just defeated one of the most powerful wizards of all time, don't you think you might be a little bit more famous?" Ginny answered.
"Great. more attention." he replied his voice saturated with sarcasm." I guess I better let you go home." he added to Ginny.
"Aren't you coming with me?"
" I was thinking if I hide here for long enough, they might forget and I could escape without any attention."
"Harry, what you did last night will be remembered for years, no, centuries to come so you might as well get used to the attention. Come home with me." She pleaded standing up and holding her hand out for Harry to take.
"I…home sounds nice." he said standing up and slipping an arm, around her waist. They made their way towards the Entrance Hall. "You  know, you'll never get a quiet life anymore. After all every witch and wizard owes their happiness to you." Ginny whispered in his ear.
"I can but hop[e." Harry replied. To his fortune he escaped to the Entrance Hall unnoticed. He found the Weasleys and Hermione before anyone could ask him for a speech or any such thing. He smiled as he saw Ron and Hermione holding hands discreetly in the carriage on the way to Hogsmeade. Harry could sense Ginny's weariness as darkness enveloped them. He held her close as she laid her head on his chest, stifling a yawn.
